Suvivor: The Simpsons

Discuss the similarities and differences to the first chapter of the novel. Why do you think the writers/producers made those changes?

There are many similar parts in the first chapter of the novel compared to the video.Some of the similarites in the first chapter of the novel and The Simpsons were both groups of kids are stranded on an island without any adults. In the chapter, Ralph blew the conch to gather all the children to the beach and in the video Bart blows the shell. As well the video shows the mountains and the novel describes the mountain very detailed. On the island, the children eat the fruit which i similar and also in each, they bother have a set of twins. As it shows in the video, Nelson uses Milhouse's glasses and in the book, Jack takes Piggy's glasses to start a fire. A couple examples of differences are in the book a plane crashes on the island and in The Simpsons a bus crashed which stranded the kids. Also in the novel the island only has boys on it and the video has a mixture of boys and girls. I found there was more similar events in the two and the differences were harder to pick out but I predict these differences will become more noticable throughtout the book. I think the writers/producers made these changes because on The Simpsons the kids were on they're way to school so instead of a plane they used a bus and on the television show there are many female main characters that they had put on the island such as Lisa and the others girls that go to school with them. To be honest, I like it better when producers change up a show or a movie from a novel because then you don't know exactly what's going to happen if you already read the book and they know it is a better chance of you watching it because you want to.

What is Important to you in a Friend

What qualities are most important to you in a friend?  Describe the ideal friend.

Qualities are big reason why you choose to become a person's friend and why you like to surround yourself around them. The most important qualities I look for in a friend is trust and honesty. I believe this are two of the most important qualities to have because I feel without honesty you don't have anything and there is not a point to that friendship. Without honesty, you have no trust and with no trust comes no respect and reliability. These qualities are crucial to make a friendship work. If I was to come up with the ideal friend, I would choose honest, trustworthy, respectful, and I my friend would need to be a little humourous to be complete. Also the ideal friend is giving without expecting anything back in return and is always willing to help you out when needed. A good friend is when they will drop anything they're doing to come see you whenever you need them. A good friend is when they are able to talk on the phone all night long and just listen to all your problems. I think the ideal friend is someone you can talk to about anything without he/she judging you and will try their best on giving you good but productive advice. An ideal friend will tell you the truth no matter how painful it can be and is not scared to hurt your feelings.A friend will be there for you through thick and thin and always has your back. Be your ideal friend.

Racism and Sterotypes of Advertising

What images shocked or bothered you the most? What is your reaction to the more recent stereotypes? Have we changed? Can you find any other stereotypes that impact your age group?

The images that bothered me the most were all the advertisments of racism towards African-Americans. These pictures didn't surprise or shock me because of the history of African-Americans with the Underground Railroad and all the racism in the past. I think racism in advertising has improved drastically but sterotypes still remain in the industry quit a bit. I find sterotypes are more hidden and harder to notice in the advertisment. For example in the video it shows that the African-Americans athletes are angry, violent, and frightening and caucasian athletes are calm, cool, and collected. If I looked at these advistments without reading the comments, I wouldn't of gathered this information and labled it as sterotypical. Without a doubt, I believed our society has changed a great amount but still needs works. I think it is harder than we think to eliminate racism and sterotypes because it has been going on for such a long time and half the time many people don't even know they're doing it. Sterotypes impact my age group everyday. They are everywhere we go and especially where we spend most of our time; highschool. For example if a student does well on an assignment, they are classified as a "nerd." Or if a girl talks/hangouts with more guys then girls, many girls look at this as a negative thing and they girl becomes a "slut." Racism and sterotypes are all around us to this today but I think slowly it was been less and less. Hopefully in the future these will not exsist in advertisments and in our daily lives.
